JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for performing customer service duties in support of water and sewer services, business licenses, permits, and general inquiries.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Assists the public with questions, comments, complaints, and problems regarding all aspects of City services.
- Collects water and sewer payments for the City and Berkeley County Water and Sanitation Authority.
- Enters data into computer system and sets up new accounts for customers.
- Creates and completes service orders to include connects, disconnects, leak checks, and other services.
- Balances cash drawers. Locates and corrects errors and prepares bank deposits.
- Receives, prepares, processes and files various reports and records to include water bill payments, turn-off lists, service orders and customer history reports.
- Prepares mail for the Post Office; picks up and distributes mail.
- Obtains deposit receipts and change orders from the bank.
- Monitors online payments during water shut off.
- Process mail payments and night drop box payments.
- Serves as back up to co-workers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- One-year experience in an office setting, to include contact with the public, utilizing computers and handling cash.
- Ability to become a notary.
- Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of water billing procedures.
- Knowledge of basic accounting and mathematic functions.
- Ability to provide quality customer service, to include handling difficult customers.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to use computers and various software programs, to include Word and Excel.
- Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to multi-task.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Continuously requires fine dexterity, sitting, using vision and hearing, and talking. Frequently requires handling. Occasionally requires standing and walking. Sedentary strength demands include exerting up to 15 pounds occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.
MENTAL DEMANDS
Frequently requires time pressures, frequent change of tasks, performing multiple tasks simultaneously, and working closely with others as part of a team. Occasionally requires noisy/distracting environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed in an office setting, relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.
