JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the administration and supervision of recreation programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Plans and executes therapeutic recreation programs to meet the needs of the community.
  • Plans and executes senior citizen programs to meet the needs of the community.
  • Provides and plans program activities within the City of Goose Creek Community.
  • Assists the Assistant Recreation Director with the preparation of the division budget.
  • Manages budget for the division, to include requests for proposal, quarterly financial reports, invoice payment approvals, and purchasing supplies.
  • Records registration and payment information and prepares rosters for all programs.
  • Promotes classes and special events through news releases, house publications, and bulletin boards.
  • Monitors financial reports to review revenue and expense status.
  • Assists the public with questions, comments, complaints and problems regarding services provided by the Recreation Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or related field preferred.
  • Two (2) years of experience in recreation field or two (2) years of experience in Therapeutic Recreation preferred.
  • Any combination of education and experience totaling four (4) years is acceptable.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of personnel management and supervision.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, psychology and sociology.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task and plan for future needs.
  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Ability to use computers and various software programs, to include Word and Excel.
  • Ability to provide customer service to include problem solving and dispute resolution when necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, crouching, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed inside and outdoors.
