JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for the administration and supervision of recreation programs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Determines programming expectations of the community and develops programs accordingly.
  • Plans and directs special events within the City of Goose Creek.
  • Assists the Assistant Recreation Director with the preparation of the division budget.
  • Manages budget for the division, to include requests for proposal, quarterly financial reports, invoice payment approvals, and purchasing supplies.
  • Manages facility rentals at the Municipal Complex.
  • Records registration and payment information and prepares rosters for all programs.
  • Promotes classes and special events through news releases, house publications, and bulletin boards.
  • Promotes all recreation offerings on social media.
  • Produces flyers, invitations, brochures, etc. for programs and classes.
  • Develops, creates and implements plans to attain sponsorships from different grant providers and local businesses.
  • Monitors financial reports to review revenue and expense status.
  • Meets with customers to resolve concerns.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or related field preferred.
  • Two years' experience in the recreation field or two years of events planning experience preferred.
  • One-year of supervision preferred.
  • Any combination of education and/or relevant recreation and event planning experience totaling four (4) years may be considered.
  • Park and Recreation Profession CPRP certification is preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of personnel management and supervision.
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of public recreation, psychology and sociology.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to multi-task and plan for future needs.
  • Ability to manage a budget.
  • Ability to use computers and various software programs, to include Word and Excel.
  • Ability to provide customer service to include problem solving and dispute resolution when necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and up to 30 pounds to move objects and the following physical abilities: balancing, crouching, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed inside and outdoors.
