Maintenance Technician II 

This is a great opportunity in a fun and friendly recreation department. The City of Goose Creek offers an excellent benefits package, $5,000 tuition reimbursement program, vacation/sick/holiday paid time off, wellness incentives and much more! This position works all year round. Hours are normally 7 am-4 pm Monday to Friday, with an occasional weekend for special events. 

 

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for maintaining the pool until September and providing outside groundskeeping work as needed year-round. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS       

  • Supervises field maintenance staff.
  • Performs daily, seasonal, and annual maintenance and upkeep of pool and pool facilities.
  • Tests the water every two hours when the pool is open and ensures proper chemical levels.
  • Performs daily test to ensure DHEC standards are met
  • Closes the pool and facility at the end of the season.
  • Performs basic maintenance duties such as replacing light bulbs, cleaning fixtures, and replacing air conditioner and heating unit filters.
  • Performs landscaping duties to include, mowing, trimming, edging, weed eating, fertilizing, and spraying of recreation facilities.
  • Maintains all equipment used by the maintenance staff.
  • Measures, lines, and maintains sports fields while ensuring they are within league specifications.
  • Performs maintenance duties to include electrical, plumbing, painting, and carpentry work.
  • Operates heavy equipment.
  • Repairs sprinkler systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed.
  • Observes all safety practices and maintains a safe work area.
  • Serves as back up to co-workers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Seven years' experience in facility maintenance, to include electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Any combination of education and experience totaling seven years may be considered.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • CPO (Pool Operator) License.
  • CPSI (Playground Safety Inspector) license is desired, but not required.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of pool maintenance.
  • Knowledge of chemicals used in pool maintenance.
  • Knowledge of safety practices involved in maintenance.
  • Knowledge of department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to perform electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
  • Ability to use hand tools, to include saw, hammer, screwdriver, wrench, voltmeter and power tools.
  • Ability to operate front end loader, backhoe, tractors, and lawnmowers.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 30 pounds of force frequently to move objects and the following physical abilities: crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity, and walking.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work is typically performed outside by the pool and in the pool facility. Employee will have constant exposure to noise, dirt, grease, irritating chemicals, insects and inclement weather. Employee exposed to a variety of chemicals and maintenance equipment.
